About:
Get off the grid and go camping in the Karijini National Park, Western Australia. Enjoy adventure-filled days of incredible sights - breathtaking lookouts, deep gorges, red cliffs, towering waterfalls and emerald green waterholes - while bushwalking, hiking, wild swimming and 4x4 driving on unsealed roads. Encounter wildlife, beautiful bushland and wildflowers (in season, typically June to September). At night, watch a glorious Pilbara sunset and the sky fill with a blanket of stars. Time your visit with low moonlight to see the Milky Way. Access the Karijini NP's walks or guided adventure tours and experience a taste of genuine mateship and friendly hospitality in outback Western Australia.
Karijini Eco Retreat's Campsites are suitable for tents, campervans and caravans. Maximum occupancy is 1 vehicle (plus tent, trailer or caravan) and up to 6 people per site. All vehicles must be parked on a designated site. To keep our eco status, the sites are unpowered.
* Children up to 12 years of age stay free with a minimum of 1 adult on campsites. * For children aged 13 and above please class as adults in your booking details to ensure your booking is processed correctly. * One site is required for each vehicle.
Camping Features:
- 64 unpowered campsites (but generators are welcome to be used in the camping loops between 2pm - 4pm daily)
- Shared bathroom facilities - flushing toilets and solar hot water showers
- Kiosk selling cold drinks, creamy ice creams, confectionery, takeaway tea and coffee, ice, as well as a range of unique Karijini souvenirs
- On-site restaurant and bar including takeaway options
- Use of the undercover bush kitchens (gas BBQ, sink, preparation area and seating) for those looking to self-cater
Please bring your own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.
Solar hot water temperature is supplied by the sun and can be affected by weather conditions, so we are unable to guarantee hot showers.
Eco-Friendly Features:
- Accreditation
Karijini Eco Retreat holds Advanced Ecotourism Certification from Ecotourism Australia.
- Solar Power
The Retreat runs on solar power to produce electricity and hot water, and utilises backup generators when required. Power is limited to conserve energy. Our hybrid system saves approximately 200 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
- Water
Water is a precious resource in our remote location that needs to be conserved so we ask that guests please use sparingly. We source our water from rainwater and onsite bores and monitor the Retreat's water usage daily. The camp loops do not have water connections or grey water disposal options. The water from our taps is drinkable, bottled water is also available for purchase at the kiosk.
- Wastewater
We have our own environmentally friendly wastewater plant, that enables us to process wastewater through a series of natural processes and use the grey water to rejuvenate our native bushland. The system is occupied by frogs which means it is working as it should. If you find a frog in your toilet, you can safely flush it back down.
- Eco Cleaning Products
We use environmentally friendly, non toxic cleaning products and all chemicals are registered, stored and disposed of according to strict DBCA requirements.
- Rubbish
Due to the vast size of the Karijini National Park, there are no bins and no rubbish removal service at the Retreat or in the Park. Please take your rubbish with you on departure and dispose of responsibly. Leave nothing but your footprints! We also take our own rubbish out of the Park, use sustainable and recycled materials, have removed plastics where possible, and have a commitment to the DBCA to limit the waste the Retreat produces.
- Minimal Impact
Please protect the plants and wildlife, do not walk or drive on the spinifex or pick flowers. Look out for snakes and please keep our dingoes wild, so do not feed them. Insects and spiders are a natural part of our environment.
**We kindly request that all campsite reservations are made online through our booking system above. Select your arrival and departure dates, number of adults, number of children and number of sites required.**

Weather
• Guests staying between June to August: Night-time temperatures can drop to below zero
degrees. Please bring warm clothing (thermals, jumpers, jackets, beanies, gloves), and if
camping, extra bedding/blankets/warm sleeping bags.
• Guests staying between December to February: Temperatures at Karijini during this period
can reach in excess of 40°C on a daily basis. Luxury Eco Tents have solar powered air-
conditioning but the rest of our accommodation is not air-conditioned.
Getting Here
• To get to the Karijini Eco Retreat you will need to travel on approx. 3km of unsealed road if
approaching via Banjima Drive (western entrance). These roads are graded several times
during the year by the Shire and are normally in relatively good condition, however some
sections can become quite corrugated at times, particularly during busy periods, rainfall or
heavy traffic. For this reason we recommend coming in by 4WD vehicle, however many of our
guests do travel in with standard vehicles and manage the trip very well. Please ensure that all
belongings are secured, especially in caravans and trailers, prior to entering the National Park.
If you are renting a vehicle please check the policy regarding unsealed roads with
your rental company.
• Should your arrival be after hours, please call the Karijini Eco Retreat Reception on (08) 9189
8013 in advance.
• If your stay is during low season (November to March) the reception will be open from
7:00am to 10:00am and 4:00pm to 8:00pm. If you arrive while reception is closed, we will leave
an envelope just outside the reception door with your name on it, containing a map with
directions to your site or tent.
Restaurant Bookings
• For guests staying in a Luxury Eco Tent, Deluxe Eco Tent, Standard Eco Tent or Eco Cabin:
Restaurant bookings for dinner are essential and reservations should be made in advance of
arrival. You will receive an email notification to advise when online bookings open. If you are
having difficulty booking online, please call (08) 9189 8013 or email
reception@karijiniecoretreat.com.au to check available times and book your table.
• For Campsite guests: Pre-booking is available 7 days prior to arrival. We do have a Burger Bar (takeaway) available daily, and our Camp Bush Kitchens with BBQ facilities for use.
• Places are limited and our facility is very popular. Guests with no advance table reservation
may be turned away.
• If your stay is during low season (November to March) we will be operating a reduced menu
or we may close the restaurant. Further information will be provided to you closer to your stay.
• Due to our remote location, our preferred payment method is credit/debit card.
