Karijini National Park Update

Ex Tropical Cyclone Damien - Karijini Eco Retreat is now accessible. If you are arriving from Newman or Port Hedland, don't enter the Park via the first entry gates you see (east entry), drive until you see the next entry (west entry) as Banjima Drive North remains closed. Weano Road after the Karijini Eco Retreat which leads to the Weano recreation area also remains closed.
The following sites in Karijini National Park have reopened after ex Tropical Cyclone Damien:
• Joffre walk, carpark and lookout
• Hamersley Gorge
• Mt Bruce
• Karijini Eco Retreat
• Banjima West Road to Joffre carpark
• Banjima East Road
• Dales Road
• Dales campground
• Fortescue Falls
• Fern Pool
The following sites remain closed:
• Weano Road from the Karijini Eco Retreat driveway to the Weano day use area
• Knox Road and day use area
• Circular Pool walk
• Banjima North Road from Joffre Gorge turn-off to the Karijini Visitor Centre

Optus Brings Mobile Coverage to Karijini National Park

Optus has switched on three satellite small cells in Western Australia’s Karijini National Park bringing mobile coverage to the area for the first time as part of round two of the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.
The new sites are located at Karijini Eco Resort, Karijini Campground and the Karijini Visitor Centre with coverage expected to cover a radius of approximately three-kilometres from each site. Mobile coverage is now available in time for the annual Karijini Experience 2018, with a large number of visitors travelling to the National Park to take part in cultural and culinary events.
Andrew Sheridan, Optus Vice President Regulatory and Public Affairs said, “It’s wonderful to be able to offer visitors to Karijini National Park access to mobile coverage. As one of Western Australia’s most popular tourist sites it’s important that people who visit this beautiful, but remote part of Australia, have the ability to check-in and connect with friends and family back home.”
Satellite small cells provide a flexible alternative to a traditional mobile tower, using satellite connectivity and backhaul to deliver mobile coverage to a concentrated local area. The satellite small cell operates like a traditional 3G mobile base station providing people within the area the ability to make calls and text on the go and offers access to mobile data. The three new sites will also enable non-Optus customers visiting the area to make calls to Emergency Services when visiting the park.
New Lookout at Fortescue Falls

A new lookout is being installed to view Fortescue Falls in Karijini National Park. Construction is under way as the lookout is linked to the steps down to the Falls. Visitors are asked to proceed with caution and follow directions as machinery and equipment are being used at the site.
Banjima Drive (West) Is Now Sealed

Entry into the National Park and to the Karijini Eco Retreat via Banjima Drive (West) is now sealed, barring the 3km access road to the Retreat. This is the recommended route to follow.
Entry via the Visitor Centre is an unsealed road (gravel) and although this road is graded regularly we recommend AWD/4WD vehicles to be used. Please note that there may be corrugations and this is not the recommended route.
Guests are advised to ensure that all belongings are secured, particularly in caravans and trailers prior to entering the National Park via the Visitor Centre.
